Take your courage - A Dream That Spoke to My Fear

I rarely dream. And when I do, they’re usually faint or scattered, nothing that lingers when I wake up.

But this one was different. It felt alive—almost like it carried a message meant just for me.

In the dream, I saw an old friend in a crowded store. We talked and laughed for a bit, like no time had passed between us. Then, suddenly, we were outside. It was dark. The kind of dark that makes everything quiet and uncertain.

She looked at me with concern and asked, “What’s wrong?”

That question hit deep—even in the dream—because it’s something I ask myself often in real life. What’s wrong with me? Why do I feel this way? Why can’t I just shake the fear, the heaviness, the hesitation?

I can’t remember what I said to her, but before I knew it, she lifted me up and said, “Take your courage.”

In that moment, I stretched my hand high and grabbed it.

When I woke up, I couldn’t shake those words: “Take your courage.”

They echoed in my heart like a divine whisper—a reminder from God that the courage I’ve been searching for isn’t gone… it’s simply waiting for me to reach for it.

Lately, I’ve been surrounded by fear. Fear of confrontation, fear of correction, fear of failure. Fear to stand firm when my kids need discipline or direction. Fear of finances and how things will work out. Fear of saying or doing the wrong thing. It’s like fear has been quietly circling every area of my life, stealing my confidence little by little.

But this dream felt like God stepping into that darkness to remind me: I didn’t give you a spirit of fear.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” — 2 Timothy 1:7

Fear isn’t my identity. Courage is.

And courage doesn’t always roar—it sometimes looks like a trembling hand stretched upward saying, “Lord, I’ll take what You’re giving me, even if I’m scared.”

The phrase “Take your courage” is so intentional. It doesn’t say find it, because courage isn’t lost. It doesn’t say earn it, because it’s already ours through Christ. It says take it—because sometimes courage is a choice, not a feeling.

We take it by faith when fear tells us we can’t.

We take it by standing firm in truth when our emotions are shouting lies.

We take it by showing up, even if our voice shakes.

That dream reminded me that even in the dark, even when I don’t understand what’s wrong or how to fix it, God sends gentle reminders that He’s near. He doesn’t just tell us to “be brave”—He lifts us up and shows us where courage is waiting.

So today, I’m choosing to take my courage again.

To face the things that have been intimidating me.

To parent with love and firmness, not fear.

To trust that provision will come.

To believe that even when it’s dark, His light still finds me.

Courage isn’t about not feeling afraid. It’s about reaching beyond the fear—and grabbing hold of faith.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for reminding me that courage isn’t lost—it’s within reach. When fear surrounds me, lift me up and help me take hold of the strength You’ve already placed in me. Teach me to stand firm in faith, even when the night feels heavy. I take my courage today, knowing You are with me. Amen. 💛
