Feeling God’s Love: A Personal Encounter with His Promises

This morning, after hearing about the passing of a lifelong family friend, I found myself overwhelmed with emotion and reflection. As a follower of Christ, I often walk in faith, but that moment made me question whether I was truly saved and prepared to stand before Him. The loss stirred a desire within me to reaffirm my relationship with Him, to ensure I am not left behind.

In that reflective space, I poured out a heartfelt prayer, lifting my fears and hopes to God. I pleaded with Him not to leave me behind, asking that when I stand before Him, He would know me by name. I reflected on how life is fleeting—a vapor—and surrendered my life completely to Him. I prayed for His guidance to walk in His ways, to follow Him wholeheartedly, and to let go of everything that weighs me down. I asked for strength to surrender my past and embrace the new life He offers.

As I continued in prayer, I also lifted my family’s salvation and my worries, trusting that He would help me navigate all aspects of my life. Later that day, when anxiety started to creep in as work slowed down, I turned to the Bible for reassurance. I randomly opened it, and my eyes immediately landed on Deuteronomy 26, where the phrase “A special People of God” jumped out at me. It felt as if God was speaking directly to me—that I am His treasured possession.

Then I read verses ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭26‬:‭16‬-‭19‬

“This day the Lord your God commands you to observe these statutes and judgments; therefore you shall be careful to observe them with all your heart and with all your soul. Today you have proclaimed the Lord to be your God, and that you will walk in His ways and keep His statutes, His commandments, and His judgments, and that you will obey His voice. Also today the Lord has proclaimed you to be His special people, just as He promised you, that you should keep all His commandments, and that He will set you high above all nations which He has made, in praise, in name, and in honor, and that you may be a holy people to the Lord your God, just as He has spoken.”

That moment, I realized how perfectly those words aligned with my prayer that morning. The Scripture reaffirmed the promises I was seeking—God’s call to wholehearted obedience and His declaration that I am His special treasure. It was as if God was reminding me that He hears my prayers and that His promises are true. I am His, loved and treasured, called to walk in His ways with confidence and trust.

This divine encounter strengthened my faith and filled me with peace, knowing that I am deeply known by God and cherished as His own. It was a powerful reminder that in surrendering everything to Him, I find my true identity and purpose as His treasured possession. Most importantly, it reaffirmed my assurance that I am indeed His, and I am committed to walking faithfully with Him.
